Botetourt Tourism Wins State VIRGO Award

5/18/2015

Fincastle, VA – The Virginia Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus (VACVB), an association supporting destination marketing organizations and the development of tourism and travel professionals in Virginia, announced the winners of the 2015 VIRGO Awards at their 2015 Spring Meeting held at the Berry Hill Resort in South Boston, Virginia, April 29-30.

The VIRGO Awards, now in their seventh year, celebrate the success of destination marketing organizations along with their respective staff members and volunteers. In describing the awards, VIRGO Program Chair Theresa Earles of Suffolk, Virginia said, “Each year, VACVB honors the best and brightest in Virginia’s tourism industry. Whether it is an innovative marketing campaign, a wildly successful destination event, or a top-notch tourism professional; the Virgo Awards showcase the immense talent and dedication of VACVB’s members. It’s a friendly competition that provides an excellent opportunity for statewide recognition, as well as peer assessment for our destination marketing organizations.”

The 2015 competition debuted new categories which were designed to more accurately reflect the type of cutting edge promotional campaigns being waged state-wide. Competition was tight as VACVB saw an increase in submissions under these new categories. The judging panel consisting of four out of state peers turned in results that showed a very close competition. The awards were determined based on the quality of the submission, economic efficiency, and the economic or community impact.

Botetourt County Office of Tourism was a dual winner this year for their entries in the Advertising and Promotions – DMO Budget UNDER $1 million: Print and the Advertising and Promotions – DMO Budget UNDER $1 million: Interactive categories. Their unique campaign entitled “What’s Your Bot-e-Type?” was lauded by the judges for the clever marketing and variety of featured opportunities.

“The judges commented on the major impact for the money spent on this campaign and the variety of activities and interests that were featured,” said VACVB Operations Manager, Brian Gorg. Lisa Moorman of the Botetourt Office of Tourism was present to accept the award on behalf of the organization.

Other winners of the VACVB Virgo are posted on the VACVB website, www.vacvb.com.
