Botetourt County Van Service Program Rate Changes
Fincastle, VA – Rates for customers of the Senior and Accessible Van Service will see a slight increase in fees beginning January 1, 2015. Per person recommended donations for in-town medical appointments will increase to $6.00, up from $5.00; wheelchair appointments will increase to $12.00, up from $10.00; and, Personal Enrichment Trips will increase to $15.00, up from $10.00. Rates will remain a voluntary (recommended) donation, and no customer will be refused service due to lack of ability to pay.
The new rate increases are necessary to raise sufficient revenues to keep up with elevating costs for vehicles, as all donations that are collected are placed in an account reserved for the Van Program and are used to purchase replacement vans once current vehicles reach high mileage. The current mileage of existing vehicles and recent cost estimates for new vans indicated a gap in funds requiring the donation adjustment. The last rate increase for the Van Program occurred in 2009, and new rates remain comparable to similar service providers in adjacent communities.
Started as a service of the Botetourt Improvement Association, although now operated by the County’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, the objective of the Senior and Accessible Van Service Program is to improve the quality of life for Botetourt County residents that are 55 and older or have a qualifying disability by providing transportation to and from essential personal and medical appointments.
