Botetourt County Parks and Recreation Department Receives $2,000 Donation

3/31/2014

Fincastle, VA– The Botetourt County Parks and Recreation Department recently received a $2,000 donation from Camp Eagle to assist with providing youth athletic programs for Botetourt County residents.

Seven community and volunteer based athletic booster clubs sponsor and organize teams in conjunction with the County’s Recreation Department for the sports of baseball, softball, tee-ball, soccer, and basketball for children 5 to 18 years of age that either live or go to school in Botetourt County. Recreation leagues are designed to pair players with neighbors and classmates; provide equal playing time for all participants; teach the rules, playing fundamentals and skills specific to each sport; encourage children to keep active and maintain or improve fitness levels; and promote sportsmanship, teamwork and other positive lifestyle habits.

“The County’s youth recreation leagues are intended to be accessible for any child interested in playing and are affordably priced; although, the registration fees are essential for the clubs to purchase playing equipment and uniforms each season for their players”, stated Richard Peters, Director of Botetourt County’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism. “The donation received from Camp Eagle is to be distributed equally amongst the booster clubs and will help offset some of their expenses required to organize the teams or be used to provide scholarships for families in need”.

“Camp Eagle in Fincastle, Va. is pleased to offer the $2,000 donation for the young people to play Botetourt Recreational Sports. Like the Botetourt Parks and Recreation Department, Camp Eagle strives to give young people an opportunity to live healthy and active lives by being challenged physically”, said Stanley Long, Camp Eagle Director. “Being active in team sports has many benefits such as character development, social development, team intuitive, following authority, along with the physical benefits. Camp Eagle seeks to develop young people spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. Partnering with the Recreation Department through providing this donation helps meet each of our goals.”
