Changes Coming to County Recycling Centers
Fincastle, VA -- Beginning December 1, 2013, the Botetourt County recycling centers will have an updated look. Advanced Transportation and Disposal was awarded the contract to service the County’s recycling centers by the Board of Supervisors on October 22.
New blue-colored containers will replace the previous green containers and, instead of the color-coded tops, placards will indicate the recyclable material to be placed in each container. These placards will continue to use the same color codes as the previous containers with silver being for glass, green for plastic, and metal, and brown for mixed paper.
A few minor changes will also be in place to increase the capacity of each recycling center. Glass will now be collected in the front compartment of the plastics and metals container instead of in a separate glass only container. Only plastics numbered 1 and 2 will only be accepted.
The goal of these changes is to increase the availability of recycling to the citizens by decreasing the incidence of full and overflowing containers, while broadening the types of materials that can be recycled. In addition, the new containers will have better doors to keep the rain out and the commodity in while on site and during transportation reducing tipping fees and reducing litter.
