The Botetourt County Health Department is a part of the Alleghany Health District of the Virginia Department of Health. The Department offers numerous programs and services that promote and protect the health of Botetourt's citizens and visitors. Public health nurses, environmental health specialists and office support staff are dedicated to the mission of promoting optimum health, preventing disease and protecting the health of the community.

Clinic services are provided based on family income and a sliding fee scale and/or at no cost to clients. Call for an appointment or clinic times.

The Blue Ridge Parkway, which marked its 75th Anniversary in 2010, winds through the eastern border of Botetourt County for over 35 miles in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Bird lovers come each October to Harvey's Knob Overlook to watch the hawks and falcons as they migrate south for the winter.
